All around Citrus and the neighboring counties, you'll see Daly & Zilch signs on construction sites for private dwellings, commercial buildings, additions, remodels and government projects. Daly & Zilch is becoming a household name in this area but the company has certainly left its mark on the past, present and future of construction in West Central Florida and especially in Citrus County.
Daly & Zilch (Florida), Inc. opened its doors for business in 1997 by Linda Daly, a woman who found herself comfortable in a typically "man's world" because, as she states, "Building flows in my blood." Both of her grandfathers were in the construction industry; her father is a retired master plumber, and her brother is the next generation now owning and operating their family-run plumbing and heating business in Buffalo, N.Y.
Linda got her first taste of the construction business when she served as Vice President of Nichter Construction in Buffalo, NY, a then $32-million commercial construction company covering upstate New York where she oversaw the operation and its over 150 employees. But her love for Florida and all it has to offer drove her to begin life again; to start over. She selected Citrus County in 1996 because she recognized the outstanding quality of life here, including good schools for her son Darren who was then just beginning high school. Add to this, friendly neighbors, good golf, an opportunity for business growth, and the chance to really make a difference. In October of that year, Linda married Charles (Bud) Daly, the love of her life, who today partners with her in both marriage and business. Two years later, Linda's mom and dad moved from New York to Meadowcrest, and Bud's two children and their families relocated to Beverly Hills. Today, Linda and Bud are surrounded by 5 generations of family members and all of them enjoying the activities that encompasses life here in Citrus County.
Linda has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Houghton College. She obtained her State of Florida Certified General Contractor license in 1997, and since 2001 has qualified as a Certified Minority Business Enterprise. The company is recognized by the Better Business Bureau of Central Florida as an upstanding member. Linda is one of only a handful of women who hold commercial contractor licenses in Florida.
Bud owned and operated one of the largest masonry contractor businesses in Buffalo, NY, and he and Linda became best friends through their work association. Bud thought Linda was bluffing when she announced the move to Florida. "But she was serious... and here we are!" Together, they represent over 80 years of construction experience.
The company is comprised of Linda, Bud and sons and about sixteen employees that they consider part of the family as well. About this close-knit relationship, Linda was quick to say, "We're a team, and every member of our company is vital to our existence. On the first day of hire, an employee is welcomed aboard and promised a good ride as long as they contribute to the well-being of our company. I admit, I care about each of them as if I was their 'Mom'", said Linda.
